Small molecule refers to the organic non-peptide compound with molecular weight less than 900 daltons. These small molecules can regulate biological processes as research materials. Furthermore, small molecules can be designed to selective, potent, water-soluble, cell permeable. Normally, most drugs are small molecules, while constituent monomers of nucleic acids and proteins are also considered small molecules.
